Somerset Golf Development Group has been  formed to facilitate EG  strategic priorities  in Somerset with the help of the Somerset  County Development Officer Martin Higgs and other organisations.

England Golf have moved away from County Academy Programmes and restructured the way funding is allocated for County Coaching programmes.  Somerset Golf Development Group  has formed a Coaching Committee to overview funding for Junior golf in Somerset. This includes a new Player Pathway for boys and girls which incorporates a Development and a Futures squad as well as the existing  Performance squad. The cost for every junior in the county that joins one of these squads will be £50 a year and the rest of the funding comes from England Golf. The Somerset Golf  Coaching Committee has finalised  the new player pathways which  can be seen here

Somerset Girls Selection Day - Farrington Park, Sunday 18th Sept, 2016

We were delighted that 29 girls turned up for our Somerset Girls Selection Day which was held at Farrington Park GC on Sunday 18th September, 2016.

The new and returning girls were welcomed by new CJO Carole Pope, Head Coach Nick Pope, Futures Coach Terry Williams and Committee Member Beryl Richards.

Everyone met in the golf studio where CJO Carole welcomed everyone and thanked the girls for coming and the parents for giving up their Sundays to get their girls to Farrington.  Carole introduced the Coaches Nick and Terry and the girls were then split into two groups.  Terry led a short game session where the girls split into teams for putting and chipping challenges and Nick took the girls for a session on the range where the girls enjoyed, amongst other things, "scoring" a goal by hitting their balls through a football net.

Half way through the afternoon, the girls were taken back to the Clubhouse patio in the lovely sunshine for some squash and then the groups swapped coaches to complete their afternoon of fun golf.

There were lots of smiling faces, laughter and fun had by the 29 girls who came along and at the end of the afternoon CJO Carole, thanked the girls for their hard work, parents for coming along and promised to be in touch soon regarding the upcoming Winter Training Sessions for the Futures Squad.

The future is certainly looking BRIGHT for Somerset Girls Golf!
